I want to thank everyone that had the time to attend our July
general meeting. We had a conversation on the proposal concerning the sale of club merchandise containing our club logo. The
ideas and opinions expressed will send the board back to the drawing board to come up with an acceptable solution. We
also had a great presentation by Vice-President John Reinhardt on his trip to El Salvador and Whitney’s experience competing
in the river standup surfing competition. Congratulations to Whitney for taking second place in the completion. A big
thanks to both John and Whitney for their presentations.
We love presentations about surf trips
and experiences from our members. If you want to make a presentation, let any of the board members know and we will
schedule you time at one of the general meetings.
July is over and was a dismal
month for weather, water temp, and surf. July 2010 is on record for being the coldest July on record for San Diego. We
are all still waiting on the water and weather to warm up!! With any luck we will get a little surf.
Otis will be reporting on the results of the Malibu contest this month. Congratulations to all the SSA
members that represented the club in this event. Remember the Oceanside contest is this month; contact Otis if you
are interested in competing.
The SSA had a good turnout at Camp Pendleton assisting with the surf
session for the Wounded Warrior/Jimmy Miller Foundation event. This was a very rewarding experience and I want to thank
all our members that had the time to participate. This is a monthly event and you are welcome to attend. You can
find the dates on the Jimmy Miller foundation web site. If you have the time, the Marines can use your help. I
know most of you are unable to attend but check it out if you can. Next surf therapy sessions are, August 10, and 24, 2010,
0900, Del Mar Jetties, Camp Pendleton.
The August meeting should prove to be very entertaining.
The board has organized a special night. We are calling it, “Dinner and a Movie.” We will have dinner
prepared and served by our new club member, Marcello. Le Chef Marcello will be preparing lasagna (with meat and marinara
sauces) served with a gourmet salad. Dinner will be $5.00 a plate and $1.00 for beverages.
Next
on the agenda is guest and film maker, Ira Opper, who will discuss and present his surf move, “The Legends of Malibu.”
This is a great opportunity to meet one of surfing’s finest surf film producers, and view a great film.
With any luck our club sweatshirts will be in this month and we will be distributing them at the meeting.
The board has approved an extension for former SSA members to re-establish their membership with the club. The
extension will continue until September 30, 2010. This is a final attempt to get our former member back in the club.
Please get the word out to those former members still interested in being a SSA member. Former Member Application
Forms can be found on the SSA web site. Former members may complete the form, attach the appropriate membership fee
and send the application to our PO Box or deliver it to any board member.
Hope
to see everyone at the meeting. Bring a friend and have some fun!
Our next general meeting
is scheduled for Tuesday, August 10Th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Solana Beach Community Center. I hope everyone can make it.
